Most newer iPhone and Android phones support running two eSIM lines at once, or one physical SIM plus one eSIM line (Dual SIM Dual Standby).

How to set which line does what
After installing the eSIM profile, in your phone's settings you can choose which line is used for calls, which for texts, and which for mobile data. The recommendation is to keep your home number as default for calls/texts, and the new eSIM line for data.

Turning on roaming only where needed
It's important to turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line (without it, the eSIM won't work abroad), while you can turn roaming off for your home line to avoid unwanted charges from your home operator.
