eSIM for Umrah – preparing your phone before travel
Umrah is often a shorter trip than Hajj, but preparing your phone remains just as important – especially if you're travelling for the first time or alone.
Everything described below can be done a few days before departure, while you're on your home WiFi.
Check whether your phone supports eSIM
Dial *#06# on your phone – if an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, your phone supports eSIM.
Also make sure your phone is not carrier-locked, as this can prevent adding an eSIM line.
Buying and activating before the trip
- Order the eSIM online by card at goconnect.ba
- The QR code arrives by email and is available in your account
- Scan the QR code and add the eSIM line on your phone
- Turn on data roaming for that line
Settings worth double-checking
- Which SIM/eSIM line is set as default for mobile data
- That your home SIM stays set for calls and texts
- That push notifications are enabled for WhatsApp
- That automatic app updates are turned off to save data
What to keep as a backup
It's wise to keep a screenshot of the QR code saved in your gallery, in case you have no internet at the moment of activation.
Your account details and order number should be available even offline; you'll rarely need to change them, but it's handy to have them close.
Testing before departure
- Activate the eSIM line a day or two before travel so you have time for any adjustments
- Check mobile data works while still in Bosnia, if the plan is already active

- Check that your maps app also works offline
